Royal Celebrations: London

Regent Street Celebrates

London celebrates -again!  Both Regent Street and Piccadilly are dressed to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Queen's Coronation. It is hard to believe a year has passed since the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.  The UK was a thrilling place to be this time last May/June.  All sorts of royalist nostalgia and general love and admiration for our Queen came to the surface.

So, this is how the majority of London's most iconic streets celebrated The Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012. (General Rule of Thumb: Wherever you have royal celebrations, you have tons of fabulous bunting!)

Even going to work each day felt like a royal celebration! This was the scene going through Victoria Train Station in London. (..yup, more bunting!)

Royal celebrations were not confined to London's grandest streets.  This picture was taken in Duke of York Square, Chelsea.  It seemed like every town, village, and neighbourhood in the UK found a way to celebrate. Street parties, garden parties, and picnics seemed the best way to do it.

The Royal Flotilla

This was the scene of the Royal Flotilla for the Jubilee Celebrations.  People started lining the banks and bridges of the Thames hours before the flotilla precession started. We bought tickets to watch from Battersea Park on the south bank.  The atmosphere was so much fun.  There were fun fairs set up in the park, giant tents, all sorts of food venues and loads of music.  Apart from the rain, it was a marvellous day. (Hold-Up!! Do I see a Canadian flag on the Thames!)

Spectators and Royal Watchers

Did I mention huge crowds of people came out to see the Queen's Barge pass by? It was a great opportunity to meet a fellow Londoner...

The Diamond Queen's Barge

So this was the moment we all waited for...to see the Queen and senior members of The Royal family pass on the Royal Barge. You can not see the Queen from this picture...but with the naked eye, she was there..

So thanks for reliving The Queen's Diamond Jubilee with me.  Whether you are a royalist or not, you have to admit, the scene was spectacular!  No one knows how to put on a show of this magnitude like the Brits.

Yours truly,

Lord Frewbe
